What you can do

Take action

Four specific questions to ask your MP and senators about Australia's gas tax.

Questions demand a reply. Ask your MP and senators these four, and share what they say.

  1. Will you support ending uplift once a project starts producing? Deductions would stop growing once a project is earning.
  2. Will you support lowering the PRRT deductions cap from 90% to 80% or below? An 80% cap doubles the minimum PRRT on big LNG projects from 4% to 8% of their receipts (70% would make it 12%). The Parliamentary Budget Office estimated an 80% cap would raise about $5.6 billion over ten years.
  3. Will you support publishing each project’s PRRT payments and deduction balance each year? Australians can’t judge a tax they can’t see.
  4. Will you support a tax on the value of gas exports, such as the 25% export tax proposed by the ACTU and Senator Pocock? It would apply from the first cargo, whether or not a project has paid off its costs.
